This course examines how spirituality serves as a liberating, and at times constricting force in the lives of our clients and communities. Competencies for both assessing and engaging in discussions about our clients' spiritual world as well as self-awareness regarding social work practitioner spiritual orientations are emphasized. Diverse spiritual and religious backgrounds (including those who consider themselves non-spiritual or non-religious) are welcomed and celebrated in the classroom.

This course engages students in analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of past learning and applies it to new experiences. A semester long assignment integrates learning from all coursework previously taken. Students are asked to examine a social work related issue, perform a synthesis of the related knowledge on the issue, applying this synthesis to an actual agency/program, and integrate the MSW program objectives into the analysis. Completion of this course and SWRK 296A satisfies the requirement for the culminating experience.
Prerequisite: SWRK 210, SWRK 296A, advancement to candidacy, and instructor permission.
